The iPad vs. The Laptop
by Matt Stamos
The Ipad seems to be the hottest new gadget out there, but how does it compare to the good old laptop? The iPad is very lightweight and really thin, but it is not so convenient for typing since it does not have a perpendicular keyboard like that of a laptop. A laptop can be thin and light as well, and is also great for typing and as a work computer.
Price is also a very important factor in comparing the two types of technology. The iPad is $599 for 32 GB, $499 for 16 GB, and $699 for 64 GB while average laptops can cost anywhere from $200-$1000. So a laptop can be found for less than the iPad, but not always. People call the iPad a giant iTouch iPod, which is kind of true. The iPad can use aps, which are always fun for gaming or helping you do things that you need to do like find driving directions. Laptops can use bigger programs and the Internet, but so can the iPad with certain limitations.
Laptops are great for typing and for work but are not good for quick use. You would not usually see someone pulling their laptop out of their backpack to quickly look something up on the Internet. The iPad is great for quick use, but terrible for typing anything detailed.
Overall the iPad wins for quick use and lightweight. The laptop wins for typing documents or using major programs. Whichever one you decide to get, you will have to trade off some features for others like typing over convenience, but either one is a good choice as long as you chose the right one for you.
